Tucson, Ariz. –Tucson Electric Power (TEP) will help our community celebrate a Tucson holiday tradition by sponsoring the 75th Winterhaven Festival of Lights, which runs Dec. 14-28 from 6-10 p.m.
More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s event. Hundreds of homeowners in the historic midtown Winterhaven neighborhood decorate their yards with lights and elaborate holiday displays. Homes will feature glittery ornaments to recognize the event’s ‘diamond’ anniversary. Visitors can search for 75 diamond signs scattered throughout the neighborhood.
As title sponsor, TEP contributes $40,000 annually to the nonprofit group that organizes the festival to help defray operational costs for security, traffic control, portable restrooms and trash removal. To help celebrate this year’s Diamond Anniversary, TEP also provided new strings of energy efficient LED lights. The contributions are funded by corporate resources, not customers’ rates.
This week, TEP field employees in bucket trucks will help hang lights on the neighborhood’s tallest trees in preparation for the event. Festival visitors can try out TEP’s energy bike on select nights and learn more about our energy efficiency programs.
The festival provides critical support for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, which received more than $31,000 and 37,000 pounds of donated food from visitors in 2023. On select nights during the festival, TEP employee volunteers will collect cash and food contributions from visitors for the food bank.
