TEP helped highlight the vital role of nonprofit groups in our local economy by recognizing top performing agencies at the annual Tucson Metro Chamber’s Copper Cactus Awards.
Four local charities were recognized with Tucson Electric Power Charitable Nonprofit Business awards at the Sept. 13 ceremony. Winners included Startup Tucson, Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter and Sanctuary, IMPACT of Southern Arizona and Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse.
The nominees were judged on their exceptional leadership, culture, innovation and growth.
Wendy Erica Werden, Manager of Community Investment and Philanthropy, served as one of the judges and announced the awards, which were presented by Camila Martins-Bekat, TEP External Affairs Representative.
“We recognize the value that nonprofit groups contribute to our community,” Martins-Bekat said. “We wanted to provide a way to recognize the best nonprofits for their local economic impact and operational excellence.”
“All of the winners have something in common: They excel in creating social impact and public awareness of the services they provide to the community,” Werden said. “They all have a philosophy of maintaining a positive, inclusive and collaborative work environment with a deep passion for what they do.”
