Duo Keeps TEP’s Maps Up-to-Date

Melissa J. and Elsbeth H. look at power poles and electrical equipment, even when they’re off the clock. While on vacation, they’ll text each other pictures of poles in other cities.

Melissa and Elsbeth are Engineering Draftsmen, two of the 10 employees in the Geographic Information System Quality department, which ensures that the company’s electric maps stay up-to-date. They also analyze data as projects come up across the company and go out in the field, checking in person that the maps are correct.

“I love what I do. I love the freedom to go to another department and ask, ‘Will you teach me about this?’”

While Melissa and Elsbeth don’t often interact with external customers, they most enjoy interacting with “internal” customers.

“I love what I do. I love the freedom to go to another department and ask, ‘Will you teach me about this?’” Elsbeth said. Melissa agreed, adding she appreciates that she can get involved when she expresses interest in a project. “We just get to do a bunch of things, so it’s a pretty stimulating, fast-paced career.”
